Netflix's 'Building the Band' features 4 contestants from MA. What to know about them
On Wednesday, July 9, Netflix premiered a brand new music competition show, and four of the 50 contestants are representing Massachusetts.
Titled "Building the Band," the new Netflix series places hopeful musicians into bands to compete against each other. In a show full of contestants from all over the world, four singers from Massachusetts will fight for their band to come out on top: Katie Roeder, Bradley Rittman, Zach Newbould and Peter Carboni.
Here's what to know about the Massachusetts contestants, as well as how to watch them this season.
What is 'Building the Band'?
Hosted by AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys and judged by Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls), Kelly Rowland (Destiny's Child) and the late Liam Payne (One Direction), "Building the Band" is a 10-episode competition series that features singers as they try to form the next great music group.
In the first round of competition, released in Episodes 1-4, each contestant performed a blind vocal performance. Other contestants then had to decide if they wanted to make a band with each person depending on their performance, without seeing the face behind the voice.
Currently, five bands are formed, and once all six come together, each group will compete together for the remainder of the season, being judged on musical skill, choreography and style.
Peter Carboni, 30, grew up in Wareham and attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst. According to his Netflix bio, Carboni loves Queen and The Temptations, and he takes vocal inspiration from the late Brad Delp from the band Boston.
For his first performance, Carboni sang Benson Boone's "Slow it Down." At the end of Episode 4, Carboni had not yet joined a band. With four women competing for the final band's remaining two spots, Carboni may be eliminated next episode.
